Mr. Schlesinger's experience
deserves that close attention is
given to his wise comments.
There is a way, though, where
the world could get rid of the
nuclear threat. And that can be
achieved by
other arms more destructive, and
more effective in deterring or
eventually defeating an enemy,
than the radioactive ones,
without the collateral damage
inherent in an atomic war.
The invention of the nuclear
artifact was not the end of
human ingenuity. Together with
the financial means for keeping
our nuclear arsenal ready to be
used, generous funding should be
allocated by Congress for the R
& D of new and more
sophisticated weapons .
Undisputed and overwhelming
American power is the best
guarantee for world peace, for
us and for the next generations.

We already possess weapons
with the capacity of
annihilating any foe, with
what can only be described
as apocalyptic ramifications
for any people left after
such a conflict. I don't
think you really understand
how destructive the weapons
that we possess actually
are. You simply can't use
them unless you are
absolutely mad, and there is
little you can do to deter
the insane. Newer and
nastier weapons only serve
to make other nations feel
less safe and under threat,
fueling their need to
possess weapons of the same
caliber. This does not even
take into consideration the
profound waste of taxpayer
dollars in designing and
building weapon systems that
serve no practical purpose,
and whose political use is
dubious at best.
